Founded in 1961 and focused on the social aspects of epilepsy, IBE is the global voice of people with epilepsy, their families and those who care for them. Our vision is of a world where ignorance and fear about epilepsy are replaced by understanding and care.
Our strategic priorities are to ensure that:
- epilepsy is recognised as a health priority worldwide;
- human and civil rights of people with epilepsy are protected wherever they might live;
- people with epilepsy are empowered to maximise quality of life;
- research into prevention, treatment, care and consequences of epilepsy are promoted.
We collaborate with professional and government partners worldwide, are in official working relations with WHO and have Special Consultative Status on the Economic and Social Committee (ECOSOC) of the UN.
